[SM-USERS] SquirrelMail Search Error

2004-04-23 Thread Patricia Keena

Hi,

When attempting to run a search query on
messages,  the following error is received:

ERROR : Connection dropped by
imap-server.Query: SEARCH CHARSET "US-ASCII" ALL TO {5}
keena

On the SquirrelMail server when the search is failing, a
netstat seems to show the SquirrelMail server trying to connect
to the imap server using imap but getting time_wait.  The imap
server does not indicate that a connection has been initiated. The SquirrelMail
server is running on https using the secure login plug-in to force all port 80
traffic to port 443.  Does the search need to be unencrypted
or the use of an imap/other port which may be blocked?  We are
not running imaps. Has anyone else experience the same
problem?

SquirrelMail Server Config:
RedHat Linux 9
Bastille Linux 2 (allow http, https and imap
traffic)
SquirrelMail 1.4.2
PHP 4.3.4
Apache 2.0.40
SquirrelMail server connects to external imap server
using SquirrelMail default imap settings.

IMAP Server Config:
Open VMS 7.3
Process PMDF 6.2

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This indicates that there is something wrong with your imap server or
network. An imap server should never drop a connection without a proper
BYE response. It's a fatal error and reported by squirrelmail. It's not a
squirrelmail related problem. SquirrelMail is simply the bad news
messenger.

The search command is part of the imap spec and makes use of a normal imap
connection (port 143) so encryption/blocked ports has nothing todo with
this problem.

[SM-USERS] Attachment problem with SM 1.4.2

2004-04-23 Thread Williams,Neil

Hi
folks,

Can anyone help? I
have installed SM 1.4.2 on an IIS5 box using PHP 4.3.2 and it works great.
The backend is an Exchange 5.5SP2 IMAP server.  The only problem I'm
getting is that it doesn't display some attachments in the email message body
(along with the download  link).  I have tracked the problem down to
the mime type that is coming through, but I don't know how to fix
it.

I have some
attachments created in MS Word that have the correct mime-type
(application\msword) but I also have some Word docs and pictures that somehow
have picked up an application\ms mime-type.  These are the ones that it is
not showing.  I'm not bothered about viewing them in the browser I just
want to be able to download them.

Can anyone help
??

[SM-USERS] New: You must be logged in to access this page

2004-04-23 Thread Rick Taylor
I know this problem has been addressed to the nth
degree but my specific behaviour is a bit strange.

When I login to standard SM, everything works
perfectly. No problems. I can browse around,
send/receive, whatever. Beautiful. My problem comes
the instant I attempt to access ANY plugin. Click on
"Calendar" or "Check Spelling" or whatever and I get
the dreaded message. If I click back on the browser, I
go back to the previous page and continue as normal.
The session is not actually being destroyed.

I guess the fact the normal SM is working find and
plugins are not might tell us something. I'm just not
sure what.

Thoughts?

[SM-USERS] too many messages?

2004-04-23 Thread Erik Myllymaki
Hello,

using SQM 1.5.0 with Cyrus IMAP 2.1.16 on a Redhat 9.0 box. This is just
a test box under low stress(6 users). 1GB ram, 2.8 GHz Xeon, SCSI160 in
RAID5.

All is well until mail folders get > ~2000 messages, then they cannot be
viewed in SQM. And, after trying to view the larger folders and getting
just a white screen, the rest of the interface becomes useless too.
Quiting the browser and restarting makes it usable again.

This is happening w/ I.E. 6.0 on winXP and Firefox 0.8 on winXP.

These issues happen from inside the firewall, so I think it is safe to
rule out any interference from it.

thanks for any suggestions.

conf.pl -> 4. General Options ->11. Allow server-side sorting   : true

8. Plugins -> enable info plugin

save your settings

login into squirrelmail

options -> IMAP server information

Run tests 0, 3, 4, 5. Try changing charset options from iso-8859-1 to
other charsets used by translations.

If Test_3 works - you can use charset options in search (enabled in sm by
default)
If Test_4 works - you can use server side threading (disabled by default)
If Test_5 works - you can use server side sorting (disabled by default)

Re: [SM-USERS] New: You must be logged in to access this page

2004-04-23 Thread Justin Alcorn

Are your plugings being access via a different server alias.

i.e. you log into SM via 'http://www.mydomain.com/' but your plugins are
being referenced by 'http://mydomain.com/' ?

That would make it so your plugins disn't see your session.

There is small plugin called bug_report. It is included in squirrelmail
package. Install it. Go to Options->Display prefs and enable bug report
button (Bug Reports: [ ] Show button in toolbar)

Use "Bug" link that shows up in menu bar. Start bug submision. Then you
will see information that would ease debuging of your problem.

Developers need information about your config in order to understand your
problem. When you call your doctor, you don't say that you are sick. You
tell him/her that your [insert your body part here] hurts and doctor asks
to show your tongue or SSID. :)

It is possible that some plugin breaks things. Disable all of them and try
to reproduce your problem. Enable them one by one and try to reproduce
your problem. Set php error_reporting to E_ALL and check your webserver's
logs.

Interesting. I always wondered what I could do with that plugin.

How do I tell whether each test "works" as you say? Here are my results,
as I don't know what indicates a passed or failed test:

TEST_0

Request:
A003 SELECT INBOX
Response:
* 16 EXISTS
* 0 RECENT
* OK [UIDVALIDITY 1052517618] UID validity status
* OK [UIDNEXT 1461] Predicted next UID
* FLAGS (\Answered \Flagged \Deleted \Draft \Seen)
* OK [PERMANENTFLAGS (\* \Answered \Flagged \Deleted \Draft \Seen)]
Permanent flags
[READ-WRITE] SELECT completed

TEST_3

Request:
A004 SEARCH CHARSET "iso-8859-1" ALL *
Response:
* SEARCH 16
SEARCH completed

TEST_4

Request:
A005 THREAD REFERENCES iso-8859-1 ALL
Response:
* THREAD (1)(2)(16)(3)(4)((5)(6)(7)(8)(13)(9)(10))(11)(14)(12)(15)
THREAD completed

TEST_5

Request:
A006 SORT (DATE) iso-8859-1 ALL
Response:
* SORT 1 2 16 3 4 5 6 7 8 13 9 10 11 14 12 15
SORT completed

Re: [SM-USERS] Why does Squirrelmail adds word 'mail' in from address.

2004-04-23 Thread p dont think
I have installed and configured SquirrelMail.
When i send mail, it adds 'mail' to from
address. Say user1 sent an email, I recieve
from address as [EMAIL PROTECTED]

My smtp server is setup as hostname.domain.com
only. so when somebody replies to
mail.hostname.domain.com address
I am not able to recieve it.

I want it to show only [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I checked using conf.pl, at no place i have
mentioned

'mail' still it produces 'mail' in from address.

Can somebody let me know how to fix it.
1) conf.pl -> 2 (server settings) -> domain -> set
this correctly
2) if problems continue, fix your server. SM does
not add anything more
to outgoing addresses
My conf.pl server settings are correct.

This problem is not seen when i use pine or mozilla
mail, I only have it in Squirrelmail.

Any suggestions.
Yes.

1) don't email me directly, otherwise no one else can help you
2) it's easier to read if you don't top post
3) if the domain is set correctly in conf.pl, then this is really not an
SM problem. check that your SMTP server is correct in conf.pl and then
look at why your SMTP server is adding what is probably the local
machine name to the outgoing address
4) you can do a workaround of entering your actual email address in
Options->Personal Information->Email Address, but you'd need to make
sure all your users do the same

Re: [SM-USERS] too many messages?

2004-04-23 Thread Alan in Toronto
If the server supports it, is it worthwhile to enable server side
threading and server side sorting even where users have smaller volumes of
mail in their accounts? Or is it really only relevant for account with
high volumes of messages?

Definately worth it to enable them. The IMAP server is /much/ better at
sorting that PHP. It will use less processor and memory to do the same
job, and it will do it faster. ;)

What about the charset search? Should I enable that? (I really don't know
what that does.)

Thanks.

[SM-USERS] logon page not displaying

2004-04-23 Thread Tom Lopolito

When I enter my web page http://host.mydomain.com/squirrelmail, I get a folder that displays the files in the squirrelmail directory(index.php included). I have to select the /src directory then click on login.php to get the logon screen to appear. After that everything works fine.
I'm running Libranet 2.8.1(debian) with a 2.4.21 kernel, apache 1.3 and php4.
Any ideas?

[SM-USERS] Folder list on left displaying unread messages for sub folders

2004-04-23 Thread Matthew Marlowe
Is there anyway to make the Folder list on the left side of the screen
show the number of unread messages for all folders, not only the INBOX
folder?

I have filters that move messages, for example from mailing lists, spam,
etc... to sub folders and I'd just like to know when one of those sub
folders have a new email message.

Thanks.
