Bug#244358: kde-core: Wrong version number
Package: kde-core Version: 4:3.1.2 kde-core metapackage has version 4:3.1.2 while its dependencies kdebase, kdelibs and their dependencies respectively are of version 4:3.2.2-1. "A dpkg -l" shows every KDE component to be 3.2 (4:3.2.2-1 specifically) except kde-core metapackage. Thanks, Faidon

Why fonts are available with X and not with KDE ?
Hi, I have a trouble with fonts ... I can see some fonts under X ... with xfontsel for example ... or with this command : $ xlsfonts | grep -i adobe | grep 'iso8859-15' -adobe-itc avant garde gothic-book-o-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-15 -adobe-itc avant garde gothic-book-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-15 -adobe-itc avant garde gothic-demi-o-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-15 -adobe-itc avant garde gothic-demi-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-15 -adobe-itc bookman-demi-i-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-15 -adobe-itc bookman-demi-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-15 -adobe-itc bookman-light-i-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-15 -adobe-itc bookman-light-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-15 -adobe-itc zapf chancery-medium-i-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-15 But under KDE or GNOME ... with the for example the font selector of KDE; or inside applications like Kate ... I never see those fonts ... called for example itc zapf chancery [adobe] on other system I have ... Does someone have any idea to solve this trouble ? I have one point to add to my trouble ... I have a laptop installed last week from a classical woody install CD, and upgrade immediatly in Unstable ... without starting X during the complete install ... Then I have itc zapf chancery [adobe] or Helvetica [adobe] and Fixed [Jis] or Fixed [Sony] on this configuration ... that I don't see on my PC !! I have copied the /etc/fonts folder from the laptop to my PC, and also compared the fonts packages installed on the two computer to be in same situation ... but still without any result on my PC !! :o(( So not a fontconfig trouble ... so Where is the trouble ? Thus -- I think -- this only belongs > in the kppp README. But maybe the ppp maintainer has another > opinion. I see. What do you think about this text for /usr/share/doc/kppp/README.Debian ( replacing the current text about the issue ) ? kppp and immediate disconnects == The ppp protocol includes an authentication scheme. Users of a ppp daemon are supposed to check the authentication of the user on the other end. However, some ISP's don't bother to properly send this authentication, because most clients don't check it anyway. The Linux version does check it by default, leading to immediate disconnects. The solution to this is to set the noauth option in your kppp configuration. However, in order for this to work ( "noauth" is a priviledged option of the ppp daemon ), you need to add "privgroup dip" to /etc/ppp/options and/or files like /etc/ppp/options.ttyS0 (For example). Feel free to submit an improved version of the above text if you think it is not clear enough, or if there are errors in it or if you have other remarks. thanks domi

Bug#240329: knode package fails to launch - knode wrapper works perfectly
Package: knode Version: 4:3.2.2-1 Severity: normal Followup-For: Bug #240329 Hi, I spend some time today trying to find where this knode bug could come from. While recompiling kdepim with debug options and a few more kdDebug lines in knode source, I tried to start knode from the object folder : /usr/src/kdepim-3.2.2/obj-i386-linux/knode It worked ! The installed deb package still would not start (!) As you may know, /usr/src/kdepim-3.2.2/obj-i386-linux/knode is a bash wrapper and the knode I start (/usr/bin/knode) is an ELF excutable. I rebuilt the packages ifrom scratch to be sure this behaviour is reproducible with standard packages, and it is. I have no idea what the wrapper does, and I hope this could be somewhat useful to you... Bug#244465: Konqueror stopped handling html properly - possible package install bug?
package: Konqueror version: 3.2.2 I've been having a problem with konqueror for several months, where when it tries to open an html document, an error comes up saying 'There appears to be a configuration error. You have associated Konqueror with text/html, but it can't handle this file type.' This used to happen only when there was a file browsing tab open at the same time, so I just worked round it by having two seperate konqueror sessions open, one for each. Since I upgraded this weekend, it started happening every time I tried to click on a link in a web page. This is fixed by opening the config window, clicking 'file associations', finding the association for text/html, clicking the 'embedding' tab, and changing 'left click action' from 'show file in seperate viewer' to 'show file in embedded viewer'. Having put the setting right, uninstalling konqueror and reinstalling it doesn't change it back. I'm not sure how it got this way, but I'm fairly certain I never changed this setting myself, so I'm reporting this as a possible packaging bug, with the fix, in case other people are having similar problems. My guess is that one of the kde packages I installed when I first had the problem changed this setting, and it has persisted since then, so I'm sending it to you, rather than through the kde bugtracker. cheers, andy baxter.

Bug#244608: distorted decoding of mp3s since mpeglib 3.2.2-1
Package: mpeglib Version: 4:3.2.2-1 Severity: important Tags: sid Since upgrading to mpeglib 3.2.2-1, decoding of mp3s using mpeglib sounds dreadful, full of strange MPEG artifacts. Version 3.2.1-1 works perfectly, as do players built around other MP3 decoders (e.g. XMMS, mpg123, mpg321). Given that there appears to be no code change in the upstream release from 3.2.1-1, is this possibly a compiler/optimization bug, maybe only on i386? To reproduce, simply use: yaf-splay foo.mp3 High-frequency sounds such as hi-hats appear to trigger the artifacts more than other sounds. This also happens when playing the mp3 using arts/libarts1-mpeglib, so I don't think it's a problem with yaf-splay's output routines - it doesn't sound like it either. Ogg Vorbis files play perfectly using yaf-vorbis or through arts. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.4-ck1 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C Versions of packages mpeglib depends on: ii kdelibs44:3.2.2-1KDE core libraries ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-11 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libcdparanoia0 3a9.8-11 Shared libraries for cdparanoia (r ii libgcc1 1:3.3.3-6GCC support library ii libogg0 1.1.0-1 Ogg Bitstream Library ii libstdc++5 1:3.3.3-6The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libvorbis0a 1.0.1-1 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libvorbisfile3 1.0.1-1 The Vorbis General Audio Compressi ii libx11-64.3.0-7 X Window System protocol client li ii libxext64.3.0-7 X Window System miscellaneous exte ii libxv1 4.3.0-7 X Window System video extension li ii xlibs 4.3.0-7 X Window System client libraries m -- no debconf information
