Users of a ppp daemon are supposed to check the authentication of the user on the other end. However, some ISP's don't bother to properly send this authentication, because most clients don't check it anyway. The Linux version does check it by default, leading to immediate disconnects. The solution to this is to set the noauth option in your kppp configuration. However, in order for this to work ( "noauth" is a priviledged option of the ppp daemon ), you need to add "privgroup dip" to /etc/ppp/options and/or files like /etc/ppp/options.ttyS0 (For example).
