Bug#847983: apt: Sid Apt-Pinning ignoring other Release than Experimental
Package: apt Version: 1.4~beta1 Severity: important Tags: d-i Dear Maintainer, *** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate *** * What led up to the situation? I noticed, since long time ago, that I was not anymore able to use Apt-Pinning for installing packages from Stable and Testing Releases. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Everytime I try to use "APT-Pinning", I do not get what I want. Even if I try /testing or -t testing, or any Release other than Experimental, I only get error or Experimental list of packages. Finally, apt-cache policy only return Sid and Experimental packages. * What was the outcome of this action? If I try "apt-cache show -t testing linux-image-amd64" OR "apt-cache show linux-image-amd64/testing" I get this with apt-get: E: Release 'testing' for 'linux-image-amd64' was not found E: No packages found And this with aptitude: E: The value 'testing' is invalid for APT::Default-Release as such a release is not available in the sources E: The value 'testing' is invalid for APT::Default-Release as such a release is not available in the sources Whatever I try, any package will be not available… * What outcome did you expect instead? As before, a list of packages from the asked Release, and the possibility to install packages from testing, stable, etc… *** End of the template - remove these template lines *** -- Package-specific info: -- apt-config dump -- APT ""; APT::Architecture "amd64"; APT::Build-Essential ""; APT::Build-Essential:: "build-essential"; APT::Install-Recommends "true"; APT::Install-Suggests "0"; APT::Sandbox ""; APT::Sandbox::User "_apt"; APT::Authentication ""; APT::Authentication::TrustCDROM "true"; APT::NeverAutoRemove ""; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^firmware-linux.*"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^linux-firmware$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^linux-image-4\.7\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^linux-image-4\.8\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^linux-headers-4\.7\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^linux-headers-4\.8\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^linux-image-extra-4\.7\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^linux-image-extra-4\.8\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^linux-signed-image-4\.7\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^linux-signed-image-4\.8\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^kfreebsd-image-4\.7\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^kfreebsd-image-4\.8\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^kfreebsd-headers-4\.7\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^kfreebsd-headers-4\.8\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^gnumach-image-4\.7\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^gnumach-image-4\.8\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^.*-modules-4\.7\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^.*-modules-4\.8\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^.*-kernel-4\.7\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^.*-kernel-4\.8\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^linux-backports-modules-.*-4\.7\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^linux-backports-modules-.*-4\.8\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^linux-tools-4\.7\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::NeverAutoRemove:: "^linux-tools-4\.8\.0-1-amd64$"; APT::VersionedKernelPackages ""; APT::VersionedKernelPackages:: "linux-image"; APT::VersionedKernelPackages:: "linux-headers"; APT::VersionedKernelPackages:: "linux-image-extra"; APT::VersionedKernelPackages:: "linux-signed-image"; APT::VersionedKernelPackages:: "kfreebsd-image"; APT::VersionedKernelPackages:: "kfreebsd-headers"; APT::VersionedKernelPackages:: "gnumach-image"; APT::VersionedKernelPackages:: ".*-modules"; APT::VersionedKernelPackages:: ".*-kernel"; APT::VersionedKernelPackages:: "linux-backports-modules-.*"; APT::VersionedKernelPackages:: "linux-tools"; APT::Never-MarkAuto-Sections ""; APT::Never-MarkAuto-Sections:: "metapackages"; APT::Never-MarkAuto-Sections:: "contrib/metapackages"; APT::Never-MarkAuto-Sections:: "non-free/metapackages"; APT::Never-MarkAuto-Sections:: "restricted/metapackages"; APT::Never-MarkAuto-Sections:: "universe/metapackages"; APT::Never-MarkAuto-Sections:: "multiverse/metapackages"; APT::Move-Autobit-Sections ""; APT::Move-Autobit-Sections:: "oldlibs"; APT::Move-Autobit-Sections:: "contrib/oldlibs"; APT::Move-Autobit-Sections:: "non-free/oldlibs"; APT::Move-Autobit-Sections:: "restricted/oldlibs"; APT::Move-Autobit-Sections:: "universe/oldlibs"; APT::Move-Autobit-Sections:: "multiverse/oldlibs"; APT::Periodic ""; APT::Periodic::Update-Package-Lists "1"; APT::Periodic::Unattended-Upgrade "0"; APT::Update ""; APT::Update::Post-Invoke-Success ""; APT::Update::Post-Invoke-Success:: "/usr/bin/test -e /usr/share/dbus-1/system-services/org.freedesktop.PackageKit.service && /usr/bin/test -S /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket && /usr/bin/gdbus call --system --dest org.freedesktop.PackageKit --object-path /org/freedesktop/PackageKit --timeout 4 --metho

Bug#374638: i810switch MacBook (i945) support
Hello! This is a trivial patch that adds support for the "Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Integrated Graphics" controller found on Apple MacBook laptops. Bug#377264: new upstream sources for mpg123
Upstream has released a new version (0.60) on August 29th 2006. Its website (http://www.mpg123.de/) states it's now released under LGPL. The new release also fixes this bug and seems to incorporate (at least some) patchsets from Debian. Quoted from the announcement: "This version is the result of merging 0.59r by Michael Hipp and parts of his development tree with the 0.59r-gpl from sourceforge and mpg123-thor (both including patchsets from Debian) as well as continued work on the source of both Nicholas and myself as well as enthusiastic testers who gave us a purpose (thanks for being with us after that long time!)." Guess it's better to package new upstream version than patching this old (non-free) release. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Bug#681638: gpodder: Mouse/keys not functioning properly
Hi, On Sat, 14 Jul 2012, Connor wrote: My version of gpodder appears to have significant issues regarding mouse and keyboard functionality. Particularly, * Left-clicking any podcast in the Podcasts (N) view brings up the usual right-click menu. Right-clicking appears to function as a typical left-click. * Multiple selections do not work. Ctrl/Shift-clicking to select multiple podcasts does not work with either the broken right- or left-click, nor does "Ctrl-A" to select all. Do you have the configuration option "enable_fingerscroll" set to True? Try opening the advanced configuration editor (from the preferences dialog) and search for the option, then disable it. After a restart of gPodder, the behavior (which is intended for some Gtk-based platforms with touchscreen support) will be gone. More recent versions of gPodder do not have this option anymore, that's why you don't see this problem on newer gPodder versions. Bug#688000: gpodder: "View downloaded episodes" views un-downloaded episodes
Hi, On Tue, 18 Sep 2012, Roland Hieber wrote: when I choose the option "Downloaded episodes" from the "View" menu, also some episodes are displayed which are not downloaded (the little icon besides the episode title is empty, and not the "music note" icon). I expect this option to only show downloaded episodes, and in fact I cannot tell the difference from the option "Hide deleted episodes". Looking at the screenshot I see that the extraneous episodes that appear are New (you can see that because they are in bold font). "New" episodes (as well as episodes that are currently being downloaded) are considered so important that they will always appear in the list, independent of which kind of view you select. The reason for this is quite simple: You can have the view option set to "Downloaded" episodes, but still see (and download) any new episodes that are found as feeds are updated. Usually, when a new episode is found, you do two things: Either you mark it as old or download it. After the marking (or download), the episode loses its "New" status and is either shown in the "Downloaded" list or not. In other words, "New" episodes are considered episodes that need your attention and a decision - "Hey, here's a new episode - do you want to download it or not?". You can really filter only downloaded files by using an EQL expression that you can just start typing while the episode list is selected: (downloaded) The () are important here. This will filter the current episode list and only show downloaded files. Similarly, you can narrow down your search even further, e.g.: (downloaded and audio) Shows only audio files that have been downloaded. (downloaded and video) Shows only video files that have been downloaded. See src/gpodder/query.py for some of the other adjectives and nouns that are supported by SQL. With the reasoning above (and the alternative "workaround" using EQL), can we close this bug as "wontfix"? In order to avoid doing the one-time conversion automatically and thereby breaking the ability to go back to 2.x, the coversion has to be done manually. gPodder 3 includes a utility for that: gpodder-migrate2tres So to get your data migrated to the new version: 1. Once policykit-1 is installed, "polkitd" will be launched on demand. Running with "sudo" (as in "sudo pkcon refresh") works now. Uninstalling policykit-1 breaks "sudo pkcon refresh" (Fatal error: Failed to check for authentication: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1 was not provided by any .service files), so either "pkcon" has to be patched to decide at runtime whether to use policykit or not, or policykit-1 should be a hard dependency of packagekit (or there should be two variants of packagekit built - one using policykit and one not using policykit). Actually, you can simply get rid of these error messages by redirecting stdout in the crontab, e.g.: 5 0 * * *gpo update >/dev/null I consider this easier than having an additional "quiet" option. It also works for all options, and doesn't need any code changes. Therefore (with the current request) I consider this a WONTFIX. If there's something that can't be done with input redirection, please tell me. If it was not clear to you, maybe you can provide some documentation additions as a patch to the README file or "gpo" manual page? The playing part is not supported yet (it was a leftover of an Android-related experiment that used Android SL4A APIs to playback the audio). The Web UI is still very experimental and in flux. Can you check out the Git version of gPodder, which has an improved Web UI? It's still readonly, but now uses JQuery Mobile and proper JSON requests to get the data instead of building static HTML on the server side. Bug#792240: gpodder's window won't be drawn after the system's start from hiberation
Does this also happen with a different desktop environment on the same hardware? Does resizing the window cause a redraw? Depending on which applications are installed, which Desktop Environment is used and which application the user has set up as preferred application for the file types (which can change, e.g. with Nautilus - the GNOME file manager - by right-clicking on the file and setting a different default application). This is probably not a bug in gPodder itself. Does opening the downloaded files work if you use xdg-open on the files? Does it work when you double-click the downloaded files in the file manager? For which podcast/feed does this happen, and what is the file type of the episodes? Bug#1055737: gpodder don't start , claim abandon
Hi, Looking at your logs, It looks like the kernel has decided that it can’t fulfil a memory (RAM) allocation request. There are some sysctl values that affect how the kernel handles overcommitment and other things (e.g. reserved RAM for the admin user). Can you check the output of “sysctl -a” for anything that’s out of the ordinary? Some things to look at: vm.overcommit_memory vm.admin_reserve_kbytes Also, if you have a big tmpfs that might reduce available memory. Some more notes about this here: https://github.com/lorenzo-stoakes/linux-vm-notes/blob/master/sections/oom.md The “bug” could of course also be that gPodder tries to allocate too much memory, and the memory allocation failing is just a symptom of that. Bug#426389: genisoimage: Warn user when using a "-o -" command line option
Package: genisoimage Version: 9:1.1.2-1 Severity: normal I've just used the "-o -" option in a genisoimage/wodim pipe and didn't realize that genisoimage writes to stdout by default and the "-o -" option doesn't do what is does in many other command-line utilities (i.e. write to stdout and not to a file named "-"). genisoimage created a file named "-" and wrote nothing to stdout, so using it in a pipe a'la "genisoimage -o - -R . | wodim" doesn't work. It would be good if you could include a warning on the console (or even abort with an error message) whenever a user supplies the "-o -" command-line option. Package: pommed Version: 1.13~dfsg-2 Severity: normal The default volume change "beep" sound is really annoying. Before I looked into pommed and its configuration, I thought there were some hardware problems or a bug in the keyboard handling, because the beep didn't really sound like a beep. Please try to find some free "blip" or "blop" sound, like the one in Mac OS X, which is nicer. It really is annoying when watching a DVD or other video (where the sound is usually quiet) and then press the volume buttons and the "beep" sound is extremely loud. Bug#364736: graveman: Problems when scanning for devices
Package: graveman Version: 0.3.12-4-2.1 Followup-For: Bug #364736 I also experience crashes when first starting the application (when it searches for new devices). The above mentioned G_SLICE=always-malloc graveman does the trick. On subsequent invocations (when graveman has already "found" my cd device) it works also by simply calling "graveman". Bug#367013: xfdesktop4: xfdesktop segfaults on start with non-JPEG background file
Package: xfdesktop4 Version: 4.2.3-1 Severity: normal While trying to set a wallpaper I accidentally happened to find a bug in xfdesktop4: When xfdestkop starts and wants to load a JPEG background image that doesn't contain JPEG data, it segfaults. Wouldn't adopting the current code to work with this kind of feed break other feeds that might fix an episode description that has some misspelled words in it but has been published weeks ago? It would look like the episode is new when if fact it isn't. What about contacting the podcast/feed authors and asking them if they could fix their feed to behave like any other normal podcast feed? Their way of doing RSS feeds isn't the way it was intended (i suppose), and gPodder "interprets" their doing it this way as if an old episode has appeared on the RSS feed, which is (looking at the pubDate) exactly how one could interpret the RSS feed. Try the following workaround: rm -f ~/.config/gpodder/*.db The .db files will be re-created on next gPodder startup. This bug has been fixed in SVN already (using a pickle-based storage method instead of the unstable shelve module that breaks every now and then for reasons unknown to me). So, as a temporary fix for the current version, remove the db files as described above. This will definitely be fixed in the next release when we change the storage method. Bug#453244: Waiting for sponsor to upload
Hello, Marco! I've already packaged 0.9 shortly after the release, but my sponsor has not yet uploaded the package. I've sent a mail to him some days ago and I also mailed the Debian Multimedia Team and asked for someone to upload the package. The packaging source can already be found in the demudi SVN repository at svn.debian.org. Thomas -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? The whole thing is quite confusing right now. Can you remove gconfd temporarily and see if the problem persists? If so, I suspect this might be a gconfd bug, or at least the gconfd maintainers should know why gconfd starts up when a pygtk application runs. gPodder doesn't require any Gnome-specific stuff and doesn't load any gnome/gconf-related things. It's only pure GTK/PyGTK, so I'm also puzzled as to why this happens. Thanks, Thomas -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Totem is a "fully GNOME-ified" app. These changes and processes only start when you watch a video, right? You might try to install xine or gmplayer and set xine/gmplayer as your preferred media player in gPodder's preferences. This way, when you click on "play" to play a video or audio file, xine/gmplayer get launched instead of totem, so no GNOME-ified app gets started :) Does using gmplayer or xine fix your problem? Bug#448486: azureus: Desktop Entry should use "%f", not "%U"
Package: azureus Version: 2.5.0.4-1 Severity: important Azureus' Desktop Entry (/usr/share/applications/azureus.desktop) specifies "azureus %U" as Exec= line. However, Azureus doesn't accept URL parameters in the form "azureus file:///home/user/file.torrent", so when double-clicking on a .torrent file in Nautilus, Azureus will start with the following error: "'file:///home/username/download/torrentfile.torrent' konnte nicht geöffnet werden: Not a File" Replacing the line "Exec=azureus %U" with "Exec=azureus %F" fixes the problem for local files. This would "break" the .desktop entry for URLs, so you probably want to edit the parameters in the /usr/bin/azureus script, so parameters starting with "file://" will have this prefix stripped, so the azureus program will receive URLs as URLs and local files as path (i.e. "/home/[...]"). The format of the "Exec" value is described here: http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/ar01s06.html How to reproduce: 1.) Double-click on a ".torrent" file in your filesystem 2.) Azureus opens and displays the aforementioned error message When replacing the "Exec=" line as described above: 1.)
