Bug#847983: apt: Sid Apt-Pinning ignoring other Release than Experimental

2016-12-12 Thread Perl
Package: apt
Version: 1.4~beta1
Severity: important
Tags: d-i

Dear Maintainer,

*** Reporter, please consider answering these questions, where appropriate ***

   * What led up to the situation?
I noticed, since long time ago, that I was not anymore able to use
Apt-Pinning for installing packages from Stable and Testing Releases.
   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
Everytime I try to use "APT-Pinning", I do not get what I want.
Even if I try /testing or -t testing, or any Release other than
Experimental, I only get error or Experimental list of packages.
Finally, apt-cache policy only return Sid and Experimental packages.
   * What was the outcome of this action?
 If I try
"apt-cache show -t testing linux-image-amd64"
 OR
"apt-cache show linux-image-amd64/testing"
 I get this with apt-get:
E: Release 'testing' for 'linux-image-amd64' was not found
E: No packages found
And this with aptitude:
E: The value 'testing' is invalid for APT::Default-Release as such a
release is not available in the sources
E: The value 'testing' is invalid for APT::Default-Release as such a
release is not available in the sources
Whatever I try, any package will be not available…
   * What outcome did you expect instead?
As before, a list of packages from the asked Release, and the possibility to
install packages from testing, stable, etc…

Bug#374638: i810switch MacBook (i945) support

2006-12-24 Thread Thomas Perl
Hello!

This is a trivial patch that adds support for the "Intel Corporation
Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Integrated Graphics" controller found
on Apple MacBook laptops.

I've tested it with my MacBook and an external 19" CRT screen. Would be
nice if this could be added to the Debian package or (even better)
merged upstream.

Thanks,
Thomas

Bug#405127: wget doesn't handle IDN domains

2006-12-31 Thread Thomas Perl
Package: wget
Version: 1.10.2-2
Severity: normal

wget doesn't handle IDN domains (domains with umlauts) right.

$ wget -ct0 http://stefan.kögl.co.at/test.tar.gz

--16:07:15-- http://stefan.k%C3%B6gl.co.at/test.tar.gz
   => `test.tar.gz'
Resolving stefan.k\303\266gl.co.at... failed: Name or service not known.

When I manually "translate" the IDN domain name to the "xn--" format,
it works.

GNU libidn seems to offer this functionality already, the URL is
http://www.gnu.org/software/libidn/

libidn is already in Debian, packaged as "libidn11" and "libidn11-dev".

The name change is described in the FAQ:

Would be nice to see the new version packaged in Debian :)

far as I can tell.

Bug#377264: new upstream sources for mpg123

2006-09-09 Thread Thomas Perl
Upstream has released a new version (0.60) on August 29th 2006.

Its website (http://www.mpg123.de/) states it's now released under LGPL.
The new release also fixes this bug and seems to incorporate (at least
some) patchsets from Debian.

Quoted from the announcement:

"This version is the result of merging 0.59r by Michael Hipp and parts of
his development tree with the 0.59r-gpl from sourceforge and mpg123-thor
(both including patchsets from Debian) as well as continued work on the
source of both Nicholas and myself as well as enthusiastic testers who
gave us a purpose (thanks for being with us after that long time!)."

Guess it's better to package new upstream version than patching this old
(non-free) release.

Bug#394671: amule: Please include a better icon for aMule

2006-10-22 Thread Thomas Perl
Package: amule
Version: 2.1.3-1
Severity: wishlist

Debian's aMule package ships a old xpm icon for aMule. There is,
however a new, transparent and higher-resolution icon for aMule
on the web. One can be found here for example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:AMule.png

It would be nice if this could be included as the default aMule icon
instead of the old xpm :)

Thanks
Thomas

Bug#389607: Still doesn't work with Apache 2.2

2006-10-22 Thread Thomas Perl
I've now upgraded to the packages in unstable:

libapache2-mod-perl2 2.0.2-2.2
apache2-mpm-worker 2.2.3-2

The /etc/init.d/apache2 initscript still fails to start apache2.

What I now experience, however, is that apache2-mpm-prefork (from
Apache 2.2) also seems to segfault. From /var/log/apache2/error.log:

[Sun Oct 22 19:32:48 2006] [notice] child pid 7849 exit signal

Downgrading to testing versions of both apache2 and mod_perl and using
apache2-mpm-prefork instead of apache2-mpm-worker currently fixes this
problem.

Run gPodder in a Terminal using "gpodder --verbose" and see if this gives
any additional information about the problem. Also, you might want to
migrate to gPodder 3.x (can be found in Debian unstable). There's a tool
called "gpodder-migrate2tres" that can be used to convert your gPodder 2
database to gPodder 3.

Also, did you update your python-feedparser package recently?

Bug#681638: gpodder: Mouse/keys not functioning properly

   * Multiple selections do not work. Ctrl/Shift-clicking to select
multiple podcasts does not work with either the broken right- or
left-click, nor does "Ctrl-A" to select all.

Do you have the configuration option "enable_fingerscroll" set to True?
Try opening the advanced configuration editor (from the preferences
dialog) and search for the option, then disable it. After a restart of
gPodder, the behavior (which is intended for some Gtk-based platforms with
touchscreen support) will be gone.

More recent versions of gPodder do not have this option anymore, that's
why you don't see this problem on newer gPodder versions.

Bug#688000: gpodder: "View downloaded episodes" views un-downloaded episodes

2012-09-18 Thread Thomas Perl

Hi,

On Tue, 18 Sep 2012, Roland Hieber wrote:
when I choose the option "Downloaded episodes" from the "View" menu,
also some episodes are displayed which are not downloaded (the little
icon besides the episode title is empty, and not the "music note" icon).
I expect this option to only show downloaded episodes, and in fact I
cannot tell the difference from the option "Hide deleted episodes".

Looking at the screenshot I see that the extraneous episodes that appear
are New (you can see that because they are in bold font). "New" episodes
(as well as episodes that are currently being downloaded) are considered
so important that they will always appear in the list, independent of
which kind of view you select.

The reason for this is quite simple: You can have the view option set to
"Downloaded" episodes, but still see (and download) any new episodes that
are found as feeds are updated. Usually, when a new episode is found, you
do two things: Either you mark it as old or download it. After the marking
(or download), the episode loses its "New" status and is either shown in
the "Downloaded" list or not.

In other words, "New" episodes are considered episodes that need your
attention and a decision - "Hey, here's a new episode - do you want to
download it or not?".

You can really filter only downloaded files by using an EQL expression
that you can just start typing while the episode list is selected:

(downloaded)

The () are important here. This will filter the current episode list and
only show downloaded files. Similarly, you can narrow down your search
even further, e.g.:

(downloaded and audio)

Shows only audio files that have been downloaded.

(downloaded and video)

Shows only video files that have been downloaded. See src/gpodder/query.py
for some of the other adjectives and nouns that are supported by SQL.

With the reasoning above (and the alternative "workaround" using EQL), can
we close this bug as "wontfix"?

I'll look into it. Thank you for the bug report!

Version 3.x of gPodder uses a slighty different database format. In order
to avoid doing the one-time conversion automatically and thereby breaking
the ability to go back to 2.x, the coversion has to be done manually.

gPodder 3 includes a utility for that: gpodder-migrate2tres

So to get your data migrated to the new version:

  1. Install gPodder 3
  2. Run gpodder-migrate2tres
  3. Run gPodder 3

Be aware that after migrating your database to version 3, you cannot go
back to version 2, so be sure to make a backup of your gPodder 2 data in
case you might want to use it again in the future.

Yes, gPodder was probably upgraded from version 2.x to 3.x, requiring a

As the README file and the User manual[1] state:

To change the download directory or gPodder Home, you can set one (or both)
of these two environment variables:

• GPODDER_HOME: Downloads will be saved in the folder "Downloads"

"pkttyagent" is included in policykit-1, and that package also contains
polkitd. Once policykit-1 is installed, "polkitd" will be launched on demand.
Running with "sudo" (as in "sudo pkcon refresh") works now.

Uninstalling policykit-1 breaks "sudo pkcon refresh" (Fatal error: Failed to
check for authentication:
GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name
org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1 was not provided by any .service files), so either
"pkcon" has to be patched to decide at runtime whether to use policykit or not,
or policykit-1 should be a hard dependency of packagekit (or there should be
two variants of packagekit built - one using policykit and one not using
policykit).

Can you successfully use "pkcon" without policykit-1 installed?

Thanks,
Thomas

Bug#654546: gpodder: Loses track of download if the "episode" disappears during a download

Thanks for the detailed bug report. I've now fixed this issue in the
gPodder Git repository. It will be part of the upcoming 3.0.3 release:

Bug#672585: "quiet" option for "gpo update" and "gpo download" (possibly other commands) missing

Actually, you can simply get rid of these error messages by redirecting
stdout in the crontab, e.g.:

  5 0 * * *gpo update >/dev/null

I consider this easier than having an additional "quiet" option. It also
works for all options, and doesn't need any code changes. Therefore
(with the current request) I consider this a WONTFIX. If there's
something that can't be done with input redirection, please tell me.

If it was not clear to you, maybe you can provide some documentation
additions as a patch to the README file or "gpo" manual page? I'd really
appreciate that, especially the manpage could be improved here.

See http://github.com/gpodder/gpodder for the Git repository of gPodder,
against which patches should be submitted.

Thanks,
Thomas

Does this happen for all podcasts or only specific podcasts? Can you
maybe provide the list of subscriptions (if you don't want to publish
them for some reason, feel free to send them to me via private mail), so
I have some way of reproducing the bug? As you can see, it tries to
print the episode description and fails at that.

This error seems like I've somehow messed up the way that gPodder uses
to find the logo file - that's fixed in the Git repository, because the
Web UI has changed a bit in gPodder 3.1.0.

The playing part is not supported yet (it was a leftover of an
Android-related experiment that used Android SL4A APIs to playback the
audio). The Web UI is still very experimental and in flux. Can you check
out the Git version of gPodder, which has an improved Web UI? It's still
readonly, but now uses JQuery Mobile and proper JSON requests to get the
data instead of building static HTML on the server side.

See http://wiki.gpodder.org/wiki/Git for instructions on how to run
gPodder from Git (you can use "bin/gpo webui" in the checkout to test it
without having to install it).

Bug#792240: gpodder's window won't be drawn after the system's start from hiberation

2015-07-13 Thread Thomas Perl
Does this also happen with a different desktop environment on the same
hardware? Does resizing the window cause a redraw? It looks like a toolkit
problem (so any other Gtk+2-based applications should similarly be affected —
can you check)? Does this happen when the window is not minimized before
hibernation?

Thomas

For which feed does this happen? The feed needs to have the
tag in order for gPodder to detect the length. Not all feeds provide this
information.

Bug#784735: gpodder: wrong standard media player

gPodder does the right thing, which is use xdg-open on the downloaded file to
open it. gPodder doesn’t in any way reference Totem as such. Depending on which
applications are installed, which Desktop Environment is used and which
application the user has set up as preferred application for the file types
(which can change, e.g. with Nautilus - the GNOME file manager - by
right-clicking on the file and setting a different default application).

This is probably not a bug in gPodder itself. Does opening the downloaded files
work if you use xdg-open on the files? Does it work when you double-click the
downloaded files in the file manager? For which podcast/feed does this happen,
and what is the file type of the episodes?

Bug#858855: gpodder: subscribing to https://requestforcomments.de/feed raises an ssl error

This seems to be the following upstream bug:

A fix would be to upgrade to Python 2.7.9, as indicated here:

Bug#1055737: gpodder don't start , claim abandon

2023-12-03 Thread Thomas Perl
Hi,

Looking at your logs, It looks like the kernel has decided that it can’t fulfil
a memory (RAM) allocation request.

There are some sysctl values that affect how the kernel handles overcommitment
and other things (e.g. reserved RAM for the admin user).

Can you check the output of “sysctl -a” for anything that’s out of the ordinary?

Some things to look at:

vm.overcommit_memory
vm.admin_reserve_kbytes

Also, if you have a big tmpfs that might reduce available memory.

Some more notes about this here:
https://github.com/lorenzo-stoakes/linux-vm-notes/blob/master/sections/oom.md

The “bug” could of course also be that gPodder tries to allocate too much
memory, and the memory allocation failing is just a symptom of that.

Thanks,
Thomas

Bug#1030132: gpodder: Suggests obsolete gnome-bluetooth | bluez-gnome

2023-02-01 Thread Thomas Perl
Yes, the intention is to have “bluetooth-sendto” available, so the dependency
should probably be updated to "gnome-bluetooth-sendto”.

The command is called from the “bluetooth_send_file()” function here:

Bug#426389: genisoimage: Warn user when using a "-o -" command line option

2007-05-28 Thread Thomas Perl
Package: genisoimage
Version: 9:1.1.2-1
Severity: normal

I've just used the "-o -" option in a genisoimage/wodim pipe
and didn't realize that genisoimage writes to stdout by default
and the "-o -" option doesn't do what is does in many other
command-line utilities (i.e. write to stdout and not to a file
named "-").

genisoimage created a file named "-" and wrote nothing to stdout,
so using it in a pipe a'la "genisoimage -o - -R . | wodim" doesn't
work.

It would be good if you could include a warning on the console
(or even abort with an error message) whenever a user supplies the
"-o -" command-line option. It's not so likely anyone would want
to write to a file named "-", anyway :)

Thanks,
Thomas

Bug#374638: Severity "important", tagging "patch"

2007-06-06 Thread Thomas Perl
severity 374638 important
tags 374638 patch
thanks

Severity to important, because "has a major effect on the usability of a
package, without rendering it completely unusable to everyone". Has a
major effect on users with that specific graphics chipset.

Also tagged "patch" -- patch is available in a follow-up to this bug
since 24 Dec 2006.

Thanks,
Thomas

Bug#422503: Subject: jumpnbump: please provide .desktop entry and hicolor icon

2007-05-06 Thread Thomas Perl
Package: jumpnbump
Version: 1.50-6
Severity: wishlist

Please provide a jumpnbump.desktop entry in /usr/share/applications,
so freedesktop.org menus and panels can find Jump'n'Bump (i.e. the
it should appear in Gnome's "Games" menu).

It would also be nice if you could package a better version of the
Jump'n'Bump icon, the current xpm looks really ugly. The upstream
version includes a nice .ico that could be converted to .png and
used as new icon:

http://cvs.icculus.org/cvs/jumpnbump/jumpnbump.ico?rev=1.1&view=auto

Here's what I suggest as content for the
/usr/share/applications/jumpnbump.desktop file:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=Jump'n'Bump
Comment=Jump on your opponents to make them explode
Exec=jumpnbump-menu
Icon=jumpnbump
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Categories=Application;Games;

I've just tried adding the URL
http://rss.cnn.com/rss/cnn_specialvideo.rss and it works for me in the
development version. Please try out the development version by following
the instructions on this wiki page:

   http://wiki.gpodder.org/running-from-svn

For 0.10.4, please also post the console output of running "gpodder
--verbose".

Does running the development version fix your problem? What is the
output of running "gpodder --verbose" with 0.10.4?

Thanks,

Bug#455881: pommed: Volume change beep is very annoying

2007-12-12 Thread Thomas Perl
Package: pommed
Version: 1.13~dfsg-2
Severity: normal

The default volume change "beep" sound is really annoying. Before I
looked into pommed and its configuration, I thought there were some
hardware problems or a bug in the keyboard handling, because the beep
didn't really sound like a beep.

Please try to find some free "blip" or "blop" sound, like the one in
Mac OS X, which is nicer. It really is annoying when watching a DVD
or other video (where the sound is usually quiet) and then press the
volume buttons and the "beep" sound is extremely loud.

Disabling the beep in the default config or using a more subtle sound
would be desirable, IMHO.

Thanks,
Thomas

Bug#504458: gpodder: Bad directory naming

2008-11-03 Thread Thomas Perl

Jake-Todd wrote:
Is there a reason for the hash-like naming of folders and files? There's no point for it and is very inconvenient for
handling files. Could someone please explain why gpodder handles files this way, and if there could be a change made to

See this entry in the gPodder FAQ:

http://wiki.gpodder.org/wiki/FAQs#What_about_these_odd_directory_and_file_names_that_look_like_MD5_sums.3F

That said, we are working on it:

http://bugs.gpodder.org/show_bug.cgi?id=57

You can subscribe to that bug to get informed when the feature will be
available by default. For now, you have the experimental_file_naming in
the advanced preferences dialog, which will enable said functionality,
BUT it's experimental - meaning you have got to keep the pieces in case
it breaks (but tell us about it, so we can fix it for other people).

Bug#364736: graveman: Problems when scanning for devices

2006-06-04 Thread Thomas Perl
Package: graveman
Version: 0.3.12-4-2.1
Followup-For: Bug #364736

I also experience crashes when first starting the application (when it
searches for new devices). The above mentioned

G_SLICE=always-malloc graveman

does the trick. On subsequent invocations (when graveman has already
"found" my cd device) it works also by simply calling "graveman".

There seem to be several patches in upstream's bugtracker to fix this:

Bug#367013: xfdesktop4: xfdesktop segfaults on start with non-JPEG background file

2006-05-12 Thread Thomas Perl
Package: xfdesktop4
Version: 4.2.3-1
Severity: normal

While trying to set a wallpaper I accidentally happened to find a bug in
xfdesktop4: When xfdestkop starts and wants to load a JPEG background
image that doesn't contain JPEG data, it segfaults.

How to reproduce:

1. Put a real JPEG file in ~/wallpaper.jpg
2. Select this file as wallpaper in xfdesktop's menu
3. Close xfdesktop (killall xfdesktop)
4. Delete ~/wallpaper.jpg and create it again with the following
   1-line content:

# xfce backdrop list

5. Open up a xterm and try to run xfdeskop: it _should_ segfault

I guess there should be some sanity checks done while opening the image?

I've fixed this bug in upstream's SVN repository, it'd be nice if you
could try out gPodder from SVN and report back to me if this fixes your
problem:

svn co http://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/gpodder/trunk gpodder
cd gpodder
make test

Sync to your device, on error it should cancel the sync process and
display a useful error message.

Bug#433029: gpodder: Ukrainian translation

2007-07-14 Thread Thomas Perl
Hello, Mykola!

Thanks for submitting the Ukrainian translation. Please download your PO
file here and update/fill in the missing/fuzzy strings, as some of the
strings have changed in our SVN repository since the last release:

http://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/gpodder/trunk/data/po/uk.po

Send me the file ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), and I'll add the updated translation
to our repository, so we can have a complete Ukrainian translation for
the new release.

If possible, you should also translate the strings in

http://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/gpodder/trunk/data/gpodder.desktop

and send me the updated file too, so we have Ukrainian translations in
the Applications menu.

Thanks,

If you try to open the feed in your web browser, you'll see that the
feed has podcast episodes with empty title tags, hence the empty dialog
boxes. Try another feed with valid tags and you should see the
episode titles in the dialog boxes.

Bug#445516: Packaging infrastructure

2007-10-12 Thread Thomas Perl
Hello, Marco!

I already have a source .deb package for Tennix here that I use to build
the .deb on the Tennix website, maybe you want to use it as a starting
point. The current .diff.gz for version 0.4.1 is attached.

gPodder 2.0 is available in unstable, and makes the requirement of
dbus-x11 not a hard requirement when only using the command-line mode
and not the UI (some users are running gPodder on a headless machine).

Would a Suggests on dbus-x11 fix this for you? Or should I go with a
Recommends?

Bug#478748: gpodder: doesn't recognize new items when not on top

Hello, Holger!

Thanks for your bug report.

When an episode is inserted, it has to have a newer pubDate than the
other episodes in the feed. From what I see in the feed, this is the
case (episodes have a pubDate, so I can rely on the pubDate to be in
currect order).

Maybe the feed is buggy? When does the list change, and where are items
inserted and what is the pubDate value for them if not the datetime
value of the time that the episode was added to the feed?

Thanks,
Thomas

So, what is needed is an option to not sort episodes by pubDate, right?
New episodes appear at the top of the RSS feed, i.e. when not
re-ordering the items, the most recent item is at the top of the list -
is this correct? If so, an option to not re-sort a feed by pubDate
should fix the problem for this feed, right?

Sorry, that will be fixed in the next upstream release and is already
fixed in SVN. In the mean time, please see

  http://wiki.gpodder.org/running-from-svn

for instructions on how to get the development version of gPodder up and
running which already has this bug fixed.

Sorry for the inconvenience, it's my fault for not paying attention to
testing the changes before releasing ;)

Bug#478748: gpodder: doesn't recognize new items when not on top

2008-05-08 Thread Thomas Perl

Thanks for the sample RSS files collected over time.

> The linebreaks seem random. Items are mixed in the samples from the

Wouldn't adopting the current code to work with this kind of feed break
other feeds that might fix an episode description that has some
misspelled words in it but has been published weeks ago? It would look
like the episode is new when if fact it isn't.

What about contacting the podcast/feed authors and asking them if they
could fix their feed to behave like any other normal podcast feed? Their
way of doing RSS feeds isn't the way it was intended (i suppose), and
gPodder "interprets" their doing it this way as if an old episode has
appeared on the RSS feed, which is (looking at the pubDate) exactly how
one could interpret the RSS feed.

What do you think?

Thanks,
Thomas

It seems like some updated Python package broke something. Try the
following workaround: rm -f ~/.config/gpodder/*.db

The .db files will be re-created on next gPodder startup. This bug has
been fixed in SVN already (using a pickle-based storage method instead
of the unstable shelve module that breaks every now and then for reasons
unknown to me).

So, as a temporary fix for the current version, remove the db files as
described above. This will definitely be fixed in the next release when
we change the storage method.

Thomas

Bug#452490: gpodder: channel list is lost if no disk space is available on exit

Hello, Jens!

Jens Thiele wrote:

I've attached a patch that should fix the bug you encountered. Could you
please try the patch using the following procedure and tell me if this
fixes the bug for you?

1.) Check out the current development head from gPodder's SVN
 (documented at http://gpodder.berlios.de/running-from-svn.html)
 2.) Apply the enclosed patch
 (patch -p0 < /path/to/gpodder-exporter-check-diskspace.patch)
3.) Test your checkout with the patch applied (makefile target "test")
 (make test)
4.) Try to reproduce the "no disk space" situation and then close
gPodder. gPodder should refuse to save the channel list and
print a warning on the console

I've already packaged 0.9 shortly after the release, but my sponsor has

The packaging source can already be found in the demudi SVN repository

Can you give the exact message and (while the message is open) the
output of "ps ax"? gPodder does not display these settings, so this
might be related to gnome-settings-daemon or similiar.

Neither gnomevfs nor gconf is used. Maybe they get invoked by GTK/PyGTK?

> ** if gpodder starts them, why doesn't gpodder close them down at exit?

gPodder does not explicitly start them. All gPodder does that could be
related is load the PyGTK module. I don't think this will start the
daemons mentioned. Can you please try to run gpodder with the
"--verbose" switch and watch your process list to see when these daemons
are started?

Can you try to remove the gconf package or stop gconfd-2 from running to
see if these settings are modified by gconf or gPodder? I suspect these
may be modified by gnome-settings-daemon, but please test to see which
one is the culprit here.

Please run gPodder with the "--verbose" switch and post the complete
output here.

Can you remove gconfd temporarily and see if the problem persists?

If so, I suspect this might be a gconfd bug, or at least the gconfd
maintainers should know why gconfd starts up when a pygtk application
runs. gPodder doesn't require any Gnome-specific stuff and doesn't load
any gnome/gconf-related things. It's only pure GTK/PyGTK, so I'm also
puzzled as to why this happens.

The culprit is totem, then. Totem is a "fully GNOME-ified" app. These
changes and processes only start when you watch a video, right?

You might try to install xine or gmplayer and set xine/gmplayer as your
preferred media player in gPodder's preferences. This way, when you
click on "play" to play a video or audio file, xine/gmplayer get
launched instead of totem, so no GNOME-ified app gets started :)

Does using gmplayer or xine fix your problem?

I'll reassign the bug to the "totem" package, as this is the one that
causes problems for you when using WindowMaker. It might be that totem
_needs_ to load all that gnome stuff, so maybe this is not a real bug.

I'll let the totem maintainers decide. Re-assigning to "totem".

Bug#448486: azureus: Desktop Entry should use "%f", not "%U"

2007-10-29 Thread Thomas Perl
Package: azureus
Version: 2.5.0.4-1
Severity: important

Azureus' Desktop Entry (/usr/share/applications/azureus.desktop)
specifies "azureus %U" as Exec= line. However, Azureus doesn't accept
URL parameters in the form "azureus file:///home/user/file.torrent", so
when double-clicking on a .torrent file in Nautilus, Azureus will start
with the following error:

"'file:///home/username/download/torrentfile.torrent' konnte nicht
geöffnet werden: Not a File"

Replacing the line

"Exec=azureus %U"
with
"Exec=azureus %F"

fixes the problem for local files. This would "break" the .desktop entry
for URLs, so you probably want to edit the parameters in the
/usr/bin/azureus script, so parameters starting with "file://" will have
this prefix stripped, so the azureus program will receive URLs as URLs
and local files as path (i.e. "/home/[...]").

The format of the "Exec" value is described here:
http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/ar01s06.html

How to reproduce:

1.) Double-click on a ".torrent" file in your filesystem
2.) Azureus opens and displays the aforementioned error message

When replacing the "Exec=" line as described above:

1.) Double-click on a ".torrent" file in your filesystem
2.) Azureus opens the file correctly, asking to download the torrent

Can you please try out the current development version of gPodder in the
subversion repository with the Atom feed and tell me if this works for
you? I tried it and it seems to work for me.

Instructions here: http://gpodder.berlios.de/running-from-svn.html

Please be more verbose when describing this feature request/wishlist

and what makes you thing the current behaviour is inconsistent?

Please try out the current SVN version, instructions can be found here:

http://gpodder.berlios.de/running-from-svn.html

The current SVN version has this feature implemented in the context menu
(right-click on the episode in question) and also in the menu bar.

If this would solve this bug for you, I'll set the new version to close
this bug on release.

This is a problem with the file size in the RSS feeds being wrong. I've
worked around this problem in the SVN version and I've also patched the
0.9.5 package to include a fix for this bug. I've notified my sponsor to
upload the fixed package to the Debian archives.

If you don't want to wait, the updated package is temporarily available
here: http://spock.thpinfo.com/~thp/gpodder-deb-temp/

Bug#449366: gst-pulse: New upstream version 0.9.5 available

2007-11-05 Thread Thomas Perl
Package: gst-pulse
Severity: wishlist

Version 0.9.5 of gst-pulse has been released on 2007-10-30.

Upstream URL: http://0pointer.de/lennart/projects/gst-pulse/

The packaging files from 0.9.4 work fine, except the patch
"make-gst-plugin-rank-primary.patch" isn't needed anymore, as upstream
has changed the rank accordingly in the original source.

Also, it isn't necessary to rm
"/usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstpulse.so.0.0.0" and mv around the .so
files in "debian/rules", as the .so file is now installed correctly.

Bug#360807: Python bindings for libgpod

Package: libgpod
Version: 0.3.0-4

The source package contains Python bindings for libgpod in
"libgpod-0.3.0/bindings/python/".

It would be useful for Python developers that need access to modifying
the iTunesDB to have a "python-gpod" package in Debian that provides
this binding.

It seems like the deb package source at this[1] location (for Ubuntu?)
already includes the rules to generate the seperate python-gpod package.

[1] http://theli.free.fr/packages/debsource/libgpod/

I guess this just needs to be adopted to be used in Debian's package.

Hope that this takes some work off your shoulders - copied changes from
the URL mentioned in the previous post, and applied them to Debian's
source package for libgpod.

The package builds fine for me, and dpkg-buildpackage seems to have
generated a new .diff.gz for libgpod (I'm _very_ newbie in terms of deb
package development).

Haven't updated "changelog" or pushed version, as I don't know how to..

That's actually a feature to save bandwith and CPU time. You can set the
advanced option "feed_update_skipping" to False to disable this feature.
(so every podcast will be updated when clicking on the update button)

Does this fix your issue?

Maybe the forums (https://garage.maemo.org/forum/?group_id=638) are a
good start for questions and contact? Otherwise, I guess we can just use
the numptyphysics-users mailing list and let developers subscribe to the
list (it's a low-traffic list, anyway, so that should not really be a
problem).

I don't know - Tim should be able to clarify this one.

According to the SVN history, Tim and I have committed code to the
repository. I don't know if Tim has merged patches from other people
that should be added to the AUTHORS file.

I've updated the AUTHORS and README files in the repository. The
ChangeLog file can be generated using "svn log -v".

Tim is the project leader, so he has the final word on what goes in and
what stays out. I'll be happy to merge your patches and see if they work
on both Maemo 4 and Maemo 5, and I guess Tim will be okay with the
patches if they don't disrupt the functionality on Maemo.

fontconfig seems to be available at least on Maemo 5, so I don't think
that this is a problem.

We would have to package libbox2d for Maemo, but as it uses the same
packaging format as Debian, we can probably take the package from Debian
and create a Maemo package from it with just some minor modifications.
