It's the GeForce Go 7300 I'm using with 185 nvidia drivers.
I'm encountering this problem with Karmic as well as with Jaunty.

Hi evfool, in my case flickering doesn't appear when compiz is turned off.
Theres also no flickering in 3D-games (like sauerbraten or nexuiz)

I found out that the standard-ubuntu-one folder synced just like it should
...but the external additional folders on my harddrive didn't.
To resolve the problem I used the webinterface for u1 to stop the syncing of
these folders. After turning it on again and re-
