It just works but it does vary from area to area as to how they've set it
up.  Here in MN it was trivial back when they were MediaOne.  I let the
installer configure everything on my Windows desktop and then when he left,
I called MediaOne and gave them a new MAC address which happened to be the
Linux system.

What I have since done - and what I'd do again if I had to start over - is
to install a firewall/router like a Linksys and let it handle the outside
connectivity.  Then connect your Linux system to it.
