Mike, I'll take a minute on this -- I love bashing idiocy;-). But no idiocy on your part, M$'.
> How much of what they say is true? Ignorance it a big issue. While Wu-ftp's had problems, may still have (I don't use or pay any attention to it), the rep's a bozo. He makes numerous comments on things he knows little about. > They are obviously taking great delight about the issue but > how much is just MS properganda meant to divert the public >eye from Code Red etc? Heh. This doesn't look official, so it's just the inaties of a raving M$ employee. > Am I right in reading that this Email was sent by MS to their > customers? If so, are all their communications so > unprofessional and badly written, let alone, so unethical? No. Official docs, press releases, etc look official. This, IIRC, was an e-mail sent to specific customers by an employee. > Did RedHat act badly by releasing information and a patch > before others? Again, it wasn't M$, perse. It was an employee. But I did find it amusing in light of the fact they are pushing to keep security holes secret till they release a fix for them. > I pressume that the fuss is about Security Advisory - > RHSA-2001:157-06, if so I am grateful to RH for alerting me > (that is, after all, why we subscribe to the alerts list) and > allowing me to make an informed choice as to wether my system > is at risk. My view (opinion only) , if MS and other > developers know about the problem then so do the crackers, why > wait. Uh, I think I lost you on this. "Why wait"? Huh? > I really do not know much about the IT world, but my > experience is that MS and MS products are dishonest (the box > looks great ...) and that Linux is an 'honest' concept. As a > customer I demand Honesty from products and vendors, MS do not > fit that bill (,Bill). RH do, however. Honesty is a matter of perspective. Ask any marketing person about it, & they'll tell you they're ~always~ honest. RH too leaves things out about compatability, why shouldn't anyone else? What matters is, M$ has, throughout their history, lied & cheated to get where they are. I don't agree with it, but it's done everywhere by most any company. What's more, though employees are officially representatives of the company for which they work -- the company will disavouw any knowledge of any act of an employee which may hurt the reputation of the company. At any rate, if this e-mail winds up in print & it gets back to management at M$, it's likely that employee will be looking for a job soon.
