Actually, to clarify a little. Most PacBell installs in the last 8
months or so are DMT only. They use Alcatel DSLAMS. If your line is a
Covad line, the only CAP device was the Flowpoint 2100 ADSL Router.
One of the more prevalent USB ADSL modems being shipped today is the
SpeedStream 4060. This "CAN" work under Linux, but it takes a while.
Took me about 3 weeks. I would NOT recommend wasting this much time
on it. If you can afford to, get an ethernet based device. If you
know someone, even better.


As far as the issue of ANY DMT device working, again that is NOT
entirely true. Generally speaking, if the DSLAM is Alcatel or Nokia,
any device for one will work for the other. This may not be the case
however for a DSL carrier who utilizes Copper Mountian equipment.
