I have a Redhat 6.2 box with a Promise Ultra66 controller in it. I have
applied the IDE patch to my 2.2.16-3 kernel and have two 40GB and one 20GB
drive hooked up to it working flawlessly.
There used to be a 13GB drive on the second port of the second channel,
but I have replaced that with an 80GB Maxtor. I have the latest firmware
on the Promise controller and it does correctly show the model and
capacity of the new drive. Linux, however, will not get over the old
drive information (the 13GB one). No matter what I try and do, I can only
create a 13GB partition. Where might linux be storing this old
information? I even tried running Kudzu on it and rebooting with no
success (shot in the dark).
Anyone know why this might be happening? The controller works with 40GB
drives just fine and is supposed to be capable of addressing 128GB drives
if they ever exist.
