Gosh, I hope that means my TP i1720 experience isn't typical. Less
than 18 months from birth to death. Hard drive and battery both dead,
excessive wear to keys and flimsy components, broken latches and flaps
... very disconcerting the way that display flops back and forth when
the unit is jostled. It's traveled a lot, but it has certainly not
been treated roughly. And its Neomagic audio driver was a royal pain
with Linux. Just wasn't worth putting money into it to fix ...
replaced it with a Dell 7500, which is of much sturdier construction
and loves Linux.

In contrast, my Toshiba 430CDT has been pounded -- literally; I landed
on it once! -- and refuses to quit. It's 4 years old. I'm
disappointed to hear that their chipsets may not be XFree-friendly
these days.
