Huh?  You put "192.168.0.1-192.168.255.255  hollow" in your /etc/hosts file?
That is totally incorrect.  It has to be a single IP value and the value
assigned to you by your ISP.  If you are connecting by DHCP, then read the
HOW-TO on using DHCP connections.

That is bull crap.  You can use X no matter what your IP address is.

Try booting single user and then editing and fixing your hosts file, putting
in the number assigned by your ISP.
