I've posted the same question on the list before, and no-one could help
us out :(

for some reason "ndc start" fails to work properly. to get around this
you can use /etc/rc.d/init.d/named instead of ndc.

or you could just kill -HUP `cat /var/run/named.pid` and that would
restart named too :)

Hope you get an answer better than this.
