I'm kinda miffed at all of this. I *did* read the NT and Linux dual boot
and set the machine up the way it needed to be with Redhat 6.0.
Everything was working fine with the NT Loader booting Linux whenever I
wanted to.
Then, a couple of days ago I upgraded to Redhat 6.1. After I did that, I
rebooted the machine and was pleasantly annoyed to see LILO in my MBR
even though it had been told in my 6.0 installation to be on hda5.
So, I go and I run lilo -U when I get inside Linux. No deal. Lilo still
seems to be in the boot record. Hmm. Kinda annoying. OK. I got into my
/etc/lilo.conf, changed hda to hda5, ran /sbin/lilo and shutdown the
system. I booted off an old MSDOS floppy I had, ran fdisk -mbr and
rebooted.
Everything worked marvelously and as before. NT still booted fine, Linux
still booted fine, and Lilo was happily sitting on hda5. I didn't have
to reinstall NT in my case, and although the steps are different, the
circumstances seem to be the same.
