I have the same thing if I use 16 bit color.  Currently, I use 1024x768 in
8 bit and it's useable.  I have the same motherboard with the built-in
sound card (that I haven't got to work - yet), and the SiS6326 AGP.
Xconfigurator uses the stock SVGA server which, I believe is not accelerated.
In 8-bit color, the wobble problem also goes away.

not at my linux box now, so this is all from aging memory.
