It worked.  I think it was hanging on boot waiting on a password.  I set
it up originally with my root password but took it out because it was in
plain text in /etc/fstab.  I had re-booted several times since then and
know I used webmin to take out the password but don't know why it now
asks for one.

Oh well, I just greatful for all your help and my system is up and
running.

Try mounting one by hand. It should do no harm and will probably yeild a
clue to what you've damaged.  Also, rpm has an integrity checking
facility. Search for "verify" in the man page. Run it on your system. It
may be informative.
