Yes. Sounds like an amazingly good idea! Never thought of that
before.
I suspect the biggest reason you always hear "put / below 1024" is
that many of us recommending it have been around for much longer than
RH was putting things in /boot, and we haven't gotten used to it yet.
8^) I still hear people saying "and change lilo.conf to point at
/mlinuz" even though RH's /sbin/installkernel sets things up so all
you have to do is "make install". It's hard getting used to small,
yet useful, changes like that.
