I am booting the right kernel. I copied the zimage to /boot/vmlinuz and ran /etc/lilo to configure everything. I modified the /etc/lilo.conf for an added pointer to the original kernel and loaded lilo. It found everything okay.

When the system boots, it even says it is loading 2.3.3 (demand dialing), but when I do a pppd demand, it complains:
pppd: demand dialing is not supported by kernel driver version 2.2.0

I am doing something wrong when I compile the kernel. Do I need to install a kernel patch before I rebuild the kernel. Something that is not automatically patched with either of the packages mentioned above?
