Don't reboot. After you quit xwindows, just type setfont to reload the
console font.
As for the window size, start X with a higher rsolution (eg startx -- -bpp
16). Experiment around and once you are happy, create an alias like
s24x='startx -- -bpp24' and put it in your ~/.bashrc file. Then start
windows with s24x instead of startx.
