That is just plain wrong! The whole point is libc5 is dead. We are not going
to support it any longer. At some point in time, ALL linux dists will either
be based on glibc or be done. We are supporting 4.2 for another 2 years or so, so
if you need to build libc5 apps, the best thing to do is run a 4.2 system.
You can set link paths to create libc5 apps on 5.0, but I don't know how to do it
and I suspect it will be a major problem to set up. I would recommend against
doing it as it is bound to cause other problems.

Well, for the time being, only Debian has a glibc based dist (their beta 2.0).
By the end of the year, I suspect the other major dists will also be glibc based,
so you will be right back in the boat you are now, it will just be delayed for
a short period of time.
Anyway, 4.1 -> 4.2 was a series of bug/security fixes. I must also mention that
anyone who is either going to install 4.2 or is currently running it, please
check the errata and incorporate all of the security fixes that are posted
there. There have been major security issues that have been addressed since 4.2
was released.
