It's still a great book for basic Linux.  Covers most all you need to
get started.

I would also heavily recommend (emphatically, that is) one of the 
LDP collections, like Dr. Linux, Linux Bible, etc.  I still look at
mine from time to time even though it's nearly four years old.  It's
dogeared and tabbed and marked and mutilated, but it covers the
basics.  Then again, you can always print them out off the net....
Nah!  Just buy the book.  :-)
