> I would also be interested in AMD vs Intel benchmarks under linux...

a while ago i tried latexing my thesis, which was just over 200 pages
long at the time, on a 266 MHz pentium II, on a 233 MHz K6, and on a
P5-266 laptop. the pentium II did it in 4.5 seconds, the K6 did it
in 5.5 seconds, and the laptop did it in 6.3 seconds. (don't even ask
how long it takes on my poor sparc LX). so for this test the K6 sits
pretty comfortably between a P5 and P6 in performance, mostly integer
in this case. didn't get a chance to run some povray stuff to test
FP on the K6 under linux. the K6 isn't as fast as a pentium II, but a
pentium II can't be had for under $100. for linux use, a K6 is an
excellent and very economical choice, IMHO.
