I'll second what Dave Wreski said. I have a TR-4 IDE Travan drive. I have
the Exabyte Eagle TR-4i, and I'm very happy with it. It just works as
expected. I did have to recompile my kernel to include IDE tape support,
which I turned off long ago when I disabled everything I don't use.
My only caveat is that the current kernel (2.0.33 and earlier ... dunno
about 2.0.34 pre or 2.1.x versions) has a bug with the "backup to filemark"
command, I think. (For all IDE ATAPI tape drives (?)) Other than this,
everything just works fine, no twiddling required.
You can only have one IDE tape drive -- the driver doesn't support more
than one. Also, the tape drive cannot (according to docs anyway) share an
IDE controller with a disk drive. It CAN share a controller with a CDRom
drive. That's one thing to take into account.

P.S. Hey, can TR-4 Travan drives use TR-3 or TR-2 or TR-1 media? Anyone
know?
