put it in the circular file and be done with it.
sometimes its not worth it to put good money into bad.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will think about it. Customs would be my
biggest concern.
Probably a good moment to confess that I have another one in my hands
already, couldn't take the news of it being unfixable. Now that I know they
didn't even try to open it up the decision of its fate comes down to my
future plans for this lens. I don't see it selling for much in the current
condition and am afraid there might be some permanent damage to coatings
even if it could be cleaned easily.
