I read all these things on various forums about focusing issues and
shake my head. It seems no one knows how to use an SLR viewfinder
anymore: they all expect the camera to nail the focus perfectly for
them and ignore what they're looking at.

That said, I was out with the DA* zooms and the K10D a few weekends
ago. As evening came on, AF performance dropped into the toilet with
the 50-135 ... When it *could* focus, it was extremely slow at it
(and missed on accuracy too) which lost several shots until I gave up
and switched to manual focus. The battery was getting close to
exhausted so I swapped in a fully charged one; however that made
little to no difference. What made me more disappointed with the K10D
was that the Panasonic L1, with an even more rudimentary 3 point AF
system and a similarly spec'ed ZD 50-200 lens, was able to lock in a
good focus quickly at about 2 stops lower lighting circumstances the
following evening. Ameliorating that, the K10D's AF-C and focus
tracking performance in good light is superior to the Panny's.

None of this affects me that much however. I'm quite comfortable
switching to manual focus and get good results without any <gabble>-
focus problems. I just thought the way the AF system gave up the
ghost in anything other than decent light was somewhat disappointing,
even with the top of the line lenses.
