After some discussion a while back regarding a small, light external
flash unit to trigger other flashes' by slave, Adam Maas mentioned
the Nikon SB-30.

I looked it up and it looked very nice: teensy, decent power for its
size, three manual power settings and four Auto settings, simple EV
compensation (TTL and other Nikon system specific settings are
irrelevant for my uses but it's got several of those as well). And a
built in diffuser for wide angle along with an IR flash shield so it
can be used to just drive slave triggers without contributing to the
exposure.

I wanted something less bulky to haul about for triggering the
Paterson E-Flash panel strobes and other light duty flash use so I
bought one from Henry's for $40. Trigger voltage according to my VOM
is 4.7 Volts DC. It's a little smaller than the size of my Fuji F30
pocket cam but lighter.

It works well. I've used it on both the K10D and *ist DS hotshoe to
slave the Patersons for well over 400 flash shots with the supplied
lithium battery at M1/32 power output, and it's still going strong.
(All the photos I made for Ebay sales recently and the set showing
the Crumpler 7 Million Dollar Home bag were made using it.) It's also
completely silent.

Good call, thanks Adam!
