That isn't necessarily true.
As an example, B&H Photo is, in many respects, larger than the entire 
Canadian market.
This means they often get better pricing.
They are also in a jurisdiction that pays less corporate taxes, as are 
their American suppliers.
Additionally, the companies that truck their freight are also taxed at a 
lower rate than in Canada, and likely are paying lower wages, and 
definitely less for fuel.
The delivery distances in the USA are probably shorter as well.
Canada as a country is, effectively, about 150 miles wide X 4600 miles 
long.
I am sure there are other cost differences in operations that I haven't 
touched on.
All these little costs can add up to a significant price difference, 
even if, using my example, the Canadian supply chain is making a smaller 
profit % than the American one.
