In most of the world, the kit lens is the same brand as the body. 
Australia/New Zealand seem to be the odd ones out here.
Canon has the best idea going, they force third party lens makers to do 
a lot more reverse engineering, and from what I have been told by a few 
Canon users, third party lenses have a lot of operational difficulties 
on Canon bodies that were manufactured after the third party lens.
It's like they are deliberately changing their firmware to screw their 
camera body customers if they choose to use non Canon lenses.
