Good question. And the best answer is to point out that *I'm* an example of it! A large part of the cause for my spending $1400.00 on a Pentax DSLR (that's what I paid when I bought the ist-D when it was a hot item) was that I had bought a K-1000 when I was a kid and that was all I could afford. I've since spent thousands more on Limited lenses and such.
