I wasn't speaking specifically about this case as we know, hope, expect that 
Gonz did not ship an empty box. ;-)  I was making a generic statement that, 
in reality, the tracking information is pretty much meaningless, even though 
it provides a level of comfort.

What happens if either the seller ships an empty box or the buyer receives 
an empty box?

Well, if the box was shipped you'd expect someone to receive an empty
box, and you'd expect the mail tracking to reflect that.  As is I expect
that the item is still in transit.
