Ann, I recently got the R220 mainly for use as a text printer but I also wanted to be able to print color photos. If you're not going to do any color prints with it, what I'm about to relate might not interest you.

I paid $99 USD for the printer @ Comp USA - it comes with 6 ink cartridges.
If you go out and but the cartridges separately you'll pay around 70 to 80 USD - so it might make sense to buy a spare printer!

BTW - I haven't done any B+W printing with it but it does great color prints.
Mainly printing on glossy photo paper for 4"X6".

now I have 6 ink cartridges -

I'm not doing a lot of printing, but opinions about this
beast and how it
handles black and white would be appreciated before I go off
and run out of
ink experimenting.

Someone was talking a while back about getting all gray
scale cartridges -

favorite papers for this printer as opposed to older ones?

So far all I've used it for is a bit of text and making 20
transfer sheets for
a t-shirt design job I had - those came out well.

thanks

ann
