Even that's only partially true! One mid-rank manager in a department store group I once worked for came in one day and was jobless by the end of it - simply because he wouldn't swear unconditional support for the store director...

Wal-Mart? The only incentive to stay they have is if no one else would hire you. Mass merchandisers mass merchandise everything including employees. Any position short of the store manager they figure can be replaced by the next person who walks in the door. The only reason the store manager can't be is he does the hiring.
