For years i have thought about formating and reinstalling my XP
home that was
pre loaded
on my MDG machine.
I have been reluctant to do this as i have no idea how this
works. I know you
loose
everything, but whhat is the process.

I ran Windows 98SE for years beyond when I should have ditched
it. I didn't want to have to reinstall everything. Finally,
about a year ago, I resolved to do it. Here's the procedure:
1. Make sure your PC is set to boot from the CD drive, if it
doesn't find an OS on C:
2. Format C.
3. Reboot. Your PC will look on the CD drive, and start to
install Windows.
4. Then spend months reinstalling and reconfiguring. I'm still
doing some of that a year later.
Of course the usual caveats apply about backing up, etc.
Probably others on the list can give you more detailed advice.
