Interesting. Last night I rolled back all the XP Pro automatic updates
back to mid December. Now my computer seems to run faster and my
Internet connection is measurably faster (3x by the tests on
broadband.com), and I am getting more PDML posts too. However I still
have the new menus. "Reinstall from scratch" is now on my To-Do list.

You can restore classical menus pretty easily without any roll back. I prefer
classic Windows myself. Right now I switched to the XP look for the software
program I am writing (wanted to double check how it looked). But once that is
done it goes back.

Right click Start and close properties from the mouse menu (it starts with
open and explore). Choose the Start Menu tab and radio button check Classic
Menu. Pretty sure you don't have to even restart the puter. Of course, that may
not be what you are talking about. But in case it is, give it a try.
