The Retro Digital market is going to be owned by Panasonic/Leica
anyways. For that market the Leica name will outweigh the Pentax one
anyways.
And the retro film niche is currently pretty much filled up by Cosina
Voightlander and Carl Zeiss/Zeiss Ikon.
Pentax is pursuing the petite, easy to use and cheap market in DSLR's.
This is always going to be a viable market, and Pentax can optimize its
product line in ways Nikon and Canon can't.

No, but they will satisfy real photographers who want good, compact

maintain their niche. Retro equipment, however, isn't even a niche.

Subject: Re: which camera to buy?
The Pentax move to compact digital SLRs and high quality DA lenses has
gained them far more sales volume than they have lost. That's quite
obvious. It's their only chance at future profitability. They're not
going to be successful trying to satisfy a luddite minority.
In the long run, Pentax is not going to be successful trying to
satisfy the fickle gadget-buying public, when there is a competitor
that can stomp it into the dust at the first sign of serious profit
inroad.

And what's wrong with cost-cutting?
It loses them sales and profit to people like myself who will buy
alternative
lenses like Sigma, Tamron etc.
