You see, this is one of those things that make me seriously question whether I want to invest more in this brand.

Either a mfr. is producing a given lens a and it's widely available for purchase at numerous vendors, or it's been discontinued. The fact that there have been numerous shortages and wait times to get what are presumably lenses that are part of the Pentax system is terrible (I can understand on the big long fast ones that cost in the thousands).

I would not purchase an automobile from a mfr., that was known to not supply parts.

If it's on Pentax's website as a current product and not listed as discontinued, one should reasonably have the expectation that it's available for purchase.

The D200 or 5D is looking better all the time.

I has probably been discontinued, like other FA lenses. That doesn't mean that Pentax doesn't have some to ship, or may not make some more if there are sufficient orders. More might show up at B&H. This has been happening with other lenses.

The FA* 24 is apparently discontinued.

You might try calling Pentax. Don't bother e-mailing them. You will get a canned response saying "We don't know anything, but feel free to ask anytime."
