It definitely matters perception-wise, I would think. If I was a non-Pentax owner in the market for a D200 competitor, and Pentax had a competitive offering, the next thing I would look at was available lenses. I probably would be fooled into thinking I could just buy anyone of them off the shelf at any time.

Exactly! And the thing is these relatively inexpensive lenses should never be 'off the shelf' if there is a demand. Pentax shooting themselves in the foot again. They're likely creating a continous cycle of customer frustration.


I don't think you could expect these lenses to be in stock on permanent basis. Pentax only sells the *istD's at present and there cannot be much demand for more exotic glass. The *istD's aren't very impressive anyway and I cannot imagine than many without Pentax lenses are buying them. Lenses that are natural partners for the *istD seems to be available everywhere; even the Limiteds. When Pentax release the D200 competitor the lens line-up availability certanly need to be better. But as to right now I don't think it matter for that many.
