I have to say that I'm more interested in the availability of good second-hand lenses. In the past couple of years I've enabled myself with all the Limiteds (bar the new DA), and 20mm, 50mm 1.4 and 1.7, 100mm 2.8 macro, 24-90mm, 70-210mm, and 300mm, all of which are F or FA lenses. Plus a number of A, M and K lenses.

That's pretty good in my view. If I'd wanted a long tele I have seen several for sale.

Pentax's alleged dearth of lenses hasn't been a problem at all.

I'm not too sure you are right.
Pro's may think this way. But they'll buy a Canon or a Nikon, anyway.
Consumers who buy Pentax ccameras probably can't imagine - at the time they
buy the camera - that they will ever want more than two F. 3.5-5.6 zoom
lenses. I couldn't - 10-15 years ago.

It definitely matters perception-wise, I would think. If I was a non-Pentax
owner in the market for a D200 competitor, and Pentax had a competitive
offering, the next thing I would look at was available lenses. I probably would be fooled into thinking I could just buy anyone of them off the shelf
at any time.
