"... write meaningful amounts of text on ..." ??? What are you writing on your cards? A thesis? I just write a number or letter code so I can tell which is which. Plenty of room to do that on even the miniSD cards. Other notes are either in my voice recorder or notebook.
This whole thing about "I need a larger card so I don't lose them" or "I find the smaller cards hard to handle" seems silly. Smaller cards are easier to transport. I can fit 2x the number of SD cards into a given wallet compared to CF cards, which is far more important to me. If you're just dropping cards into a big bag, yeah, CFs are bigger and you'll "lose" them less frequently, but who tosses cards around like potato chips?
SD cards are much larger than most of the control buttons and sliders on the camera. If you're that ham-fisted in handling cards, how do you operate the controls on your camera?
