Not just cameras. There are a lot of pro digital audio recorders that
use solid state memory instead of tape or disc media. All the ones I
have worked with (Marantz, Edirol, M-Audio) use CF cards
exclusively. I
don't know of any that use SD cards.
Likely an area which will change eventually. These devices are not
particularly size critical, nor are they inclined to change all that
quickly. There are tons and tons of music players, PDAs, micro DV
camcorders, etc, that use SD and smaller card formats.
As I said before, it really doesn't matter much. Flash storage media
is a simple commodity. Buy as much as you need, use it for as long as
you need it. Obviously, if you have a lot of a given format, it's to
your advantage to buy devices that use the same format *if* you want
to share use of the media, but it's not as big an issue even on price
that it used to be with fast media in either Memory Stick PRO, SD or
CF hovering around [EMAIL PROTECTED] now.
I remember when a 16M card cost upwards of $100... ;-)
