I picked up my MX last night. I heven't used that camera in over a

I know the istD viewfinder is not too bad, by current standards. But
what would it take for a not full frame camera like the istD to have a
similar viewfinder, in brightness and magnification?

If you think about it, there's no way that a smaller screen could possibly look as big and bright in a viewfinder. Less total light hitting the surface area of the screen = less light to your eyes. No way around that without some sort of magical way of intensifying the light that is already hitting the screen.

Yes, I was on a trip to Ireland with the family this June - and at one point my daughter handed my my/her ME Super to hold while she went off and did something. I made the mistake of peeking through the viewfinder, and it was like the difference between watching a movie on a very nice TV (which is OK) and seeing it up on a big screen in a theater. Magical! I got a little sad at that point, and quickly gave her the camera back before I got too bummed out. I still like my istDS though!
