There are a couple of problems there. One is finding a moment when the case is empty, and the second is finding a set of scales that can handle the weight and give an accurate reading. But, according to several vendors, the shipping weight for this case is just a shade under 16lbs, which sounds about right. It's not just Australia that has weight restrictions - when we visited the UK in 2001 I had to talk very nicely to the Virgin staff to get my camera gear as carry-on. Not that this was too surprising - I'd loaded up with the 300/2.8 and the 80-200/2.8 as well as the MZ-S, PZ-1p, and a selection of less bulky lenses. It wasn't too bad on the way out, but on the way back it was a whole different story - in the middle of our stay was 9/11, so airlines were being a *lot* more strict on the return trip. I had to get permission from the flight deck. (As 9/11 unfolded we were driving around Canary wharf in London, right under the tallest building in the London financial district, watching aircraft take off across the river from City airport.) I expect there will be occasions when I have to check the case, but I'm prepared to do that with a Pelican - there was no way I would be prepared to check a soft-sided LowePro camera bag.
