One of the reasons I bought my Pelican was so that I could put most of my camera gear through the checked baggage. I haven't had any problems so far. I use 2 of the Pelican 4-barrel combination locks to keep the bags closed. Even so, at Heathrow they always ask me to open the bag so that they can inspect it before it disappears down the hatch. I also read earlier this week that in the US the authorities will now destroy any lock so that they can open and inspect the baggage. This is probably true everywhere, of course. The article which included this information said that combination locks are available that the US authorities can open easily without destroying them. The example given was a Pacsafe 3-barrel lock. These look quite strong, but I don't know whether or not they fit the Pelican case. I assume also that the master keys the authorities use are not going to remain restricted to the authorities for terribly long... -- Cheers, Bob >
