No combination of localhost / 127.0.0.1 / $HOSTNAME works, but putting additional names for 127.0.0.1 in /etc/hosts does. Maybe someone should check the places in the code where servers are referenced, maybe it isn't always by ID or port info somehow gets seperated from the hostname. Having a way to name servers would be a nice additional feature so humans can tell multiple servers on the same host apart as well.
