Last time I did that, all the colour ran out of my background images.

You also have to watch out on fast spin-ups after freezing. All the 1-bits will
end up on the outer edge of the disk and the zeros near the centre. Took me
ages to sort them all out again. [cid:1276594683.16444.30.camel@localhost]

Well I've never had a problem with LXK DVD's in the past four years but I
suppose there is always a first time. Yes I wiped the condensation off first!!
Then when the disk worked I did make a copy as Jean had suggested. Check the
suspect disk this morning and it still worked, he! he!

Paul,

I've never had any problems with the LXF DVD's. I suppose it all depends on the
make of your DVD?

The freezing solution sounds like a good work around however look out for
moisture spinning away from the DVD, due to condensation as it starts to warm
up, I don't think the DVD player will enjoy that!!

Alan.

I bought this months Linux Format magazine (LXF133) which now has a thin
Eco-disc DVD attached. This is pretty flexible item and it did look a
bit distorted. Well when I tried it out it would not work in my drive.

I had read on a blog some time ago, that people had been able to recover
date from failed HD's by putting them into a plastic freezer bag and
leaving in the freezer over night. All sounded a bit far fetched to me.

But I thought I would put the failed DVD in my freezer for a couple of
hours and see what happens, there being nothing to loose as it didn't
work anyway.
Guess what after this 'treatment' it works as normal!! May be the low
temperature took out the distortion allowing the disk to spin properly
in my drive?
