I see in the stats output that curr_connections is always 455, despite maxconns being set to 2048.

I recall freebsd having more process limits than linux typically does. Can you set -c to 256 and re-run your test? Just in case.

Otherwise, I'm not sure offhand. I'll take a look at this in more detail when I get some time (could be a week or two though).

You said 1.4.17 definitionly doesn't do this? Even when built under freebsd 10?
