Sorry...coming into this conversation rather late <wrings hands>

Here's a page that bears a look, just so you know exactly what you're up
against. The bit about PP's "Buyer Protection" is very instructive:

http://www.ygoodman.com/paypal.asp

Personally, I find it amusing when I hear people say things along the lines
of "PayPal is cool/legit because eBay owns them."

>From what I can tell, most people who've ever complained to eBay about
anything significant will more than likely tell you that, unless the matter
involves a Power Seller (these folks are highly valued by eBay and provided
with an _actual phone number_ for contacting eBay) or something that will
create a glaring liability for them, eBay is of little to no help.

The one thing I've never really been able to reconcile with Paypal is: is it
better to have a CC hooked up to your PayPal account or do a balance
transfer from a bank account? I know that using a CC means you're entitled
to fraud prevention/protection from the CC company. However, the fact that
I have a rather large credit limit worries me about the consequences if the
account gets hacked. Hooking it up to a bank account means that they can
only bag whatever money is in the account (AFAIK...), but there's usually a
day or two lag time between my making a Paypal purchase and the purchase
amount hitting the account. It seems like I can't win here. Any insights?

Best,

James Fraser
