I'm obliged to agree. OS 9 had a nice UI and usability for its time. But,
under the hood, OS X is simply a MIRACULOUS THING by comparison. You can't
make the move to X without committing to a patient and open mind, however.
Some things ARE different between 9 and X -- most notably the absence of a
folder-drillable Apple Menu and the Applications Menu. The Dock, however,
fills those bills in spades -- and more.

Mac OS, serving us all well since 1984 (*cue sappy strings*), deserves
nothing but our gratitude for being the best, most friendly, ground-breaking
and productive OS in the world. Now, OS X has taken that book and improved
upon it, tossed some ideas from a bygone era, and provided ultra-solid pipes
for our digital plumbing to flow through.
