I have a old 8100 at the paper that runs 8.1 just fine. (BTW, 7.5.5 is a free download from Apple, don't pay money for it.) So, some questions. When you formatted the drive, did you do it as HFS? I can't remember what version of Drive Setup HFS+ came in on, but OS 8 requires the older HFS. HFS+ came in with OS 8.1, IIRC. Rather than using Drive Setup 1.3.1, I would use whatever version is on your OS install CD. Next question. Is your OS 8 Install CD a retail version? If not, it is very likely blocked from installing on any Mac other than the model it shipped with. If your CD is a retail version, and you formatted the disk as HFS, then we're going to need more info to help. For instance, what error message do you get when you try to install?
