DIY is not always cheaper, prices on desktops have come down enough that 
you will be hardpressed to justify the difference in cost between two 
machines (one built and a Dell) to any but the knowledgeable.

Personally I would say build it yourself if you dont have enough excess 
$$ to justify a prebuilt.  You can slowly get the parts together to do 
what you want.
