The immutability and independence of segments are so deeply hardcoded in how Lucene operates that I don't think you'll be able to change this. The way I see it, I think you'd be better off indexing your vectors in an external database system and use docvalues to store just an id of a vector in that external system... -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
